Osama El-Sepelgy obtained his PhD in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Młynarski (Krakow, Poland) and Prof. Schneider (Leipzig, Germany). He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher and subgroup leader with Prof. Magnus Rueping at RWTH Aachen. Since July 2021, he has been an independent junior group leader at LIKAT Rostock. He was awarded his habilitation in July 2025. He has authored 30 publications, including 23 as corresponding author. His current research focuses on bioinspired radical chemistry using base metals and visible light.

报告摘要：

Osama El-Sepelgy’s research group focuses on bioinspired inner-sphere base-metal photocatalysis, with radical chemistry as a central theme. This presentation will highlight the group’s recent advances in cobaloxime-catalyzed radical desaturation, including remote desaturation of aliphatic amines and alcohols, dehydroamination of amines, and dehydrogenative functionalization of olefins. It will also cover cobalt-catalyzed γ-selective C–H functionalization of aliphatic alcohols via an olefin-tethered radical relay using readily available cobalt–salen complexes under mild conditions. Finally, recent progress in iron- and cerium-based LMCT photocatalysis will be discussed, demonstrating how earth-abundant metals and light can be combined for efficient radical generation and sustainable functionalization.
